If you are familiar with 110% gear, then you already know the benefits that compression + ice provide, either during your workout or post workout for recovery. What I would like to discuss today, are some of the unique benefits that 110% gear can provide. More specifically how it relates to the CrossFit™ community and increasing W.O.D. efficiency. You might be asking yourself: “What is CrossFit™ and what the heck is a W.O.D.”
CrossFit™ is a strength and conditioning program developed for athletes of all skill levels. Its core definition is, “constantly varied, functional movements, performed at high intensity.” A typical CrossFit™ workout is referred to as a W.O.D. or Workout Of the Day. These workouts are typically executed in a group setting and are measured by either time (how long it takes you to complete the WOD) or number of repetitions completed in a given amount of time. CrossFit™ athletes are constantly looking at ways to increase their efficiency in performing these W.O.D.’s. The following is one of the benefits in using 110% gear, you may not have thought of.
The dreaded Box Jump! The box jump is a very standard exercise that is used in many a CrossFit™ W.O.D. It is typically performed on a 20”-24” box. To perform this exercise, the individual stands, facing the box and jumps up with both feet, landing on top of the box. Full extension of the hips is required while on top of the box, or as one jumps back down to the floor.
This exercise itself is not difficult, but many people, either through fatigue or mental fear, have missed the top of the box, resulting in a collision of their shins with the edge of the box as they fall back down to the floor. I have seen many injuries, from small scrapes, to deep gashes that took weeks to heal. Some die-hards see it as a battle scar, but regardless, this seems to really mess with people’s minds and creates a mental block of ever wanting to jump back up on the box. CrossFit™, like many athletic endeavors, is very mental. Even the slightest fear can slow you down in the middle of a W.O.D., keeping you from performing at your absolute peak.
This is where 110%’s Double-Life Shin/Calf Sleeves or their new Clutch Full Length Tights can save the day. Not only will they protect your shins from scarring scrapes while doing box jumps, but they can provide a level of mental security, just knowing that you are protected, that allows you to get back on that box, with the confidence that you once had! Or quite possibly… a new level of confidence never experienced before. Also, on the recovery side, both the Clutch Tights and the Double Life Shin/Calf Sleeves can be used to compress and ice injuries that have already been sustained to the shins. This can reduce swelling and pain to existing injuries and help you recovery much more quickly. These are only two applications where 110% gear allows you to Play Harder!!! www,110playharder.com
